You may have noticed, or not, that each Friday morning since July 1, I have posted a column in addition to my reviews. Each has coffee in the title. Strange for a guy who doesn’t drink coffee. So why? As I have told many of you, I still miss reading the movie reviews in the Friday morning newspaper, so this is my way of trying to replicate it. And, most of you drink coffee. Since movie schedules, and my schedule, do not always make it possible to have a review on Friday morning, I try to find some interesting movie tidbit for you, and maybe a pithy comment or two. For now, unless I have violated some copyright law, or change my mind, this will be the title of my column. Hope you enjoy.
Last week I told you that James Cameron was filming Avatar 2 and 3 at the same time. This week comes word that Kate Winslet is rejoining her director from Titanic. Titanic money plus Avatar money would equal the GNP of lots of small countries. Kate will be seen in The Mountain Between Us this week.
Strike while the iron is hot! Last week, Hugh Hefner died. Now we are told that Jared Leto will play Hef in a new movie. Apparently this story has been in some form of pre-production since 2007, but since the stars are now aligned, it appears the latest Playboy movie will hit the screen.
The Ruth Bader Ginsburg movie is in production in Montreal and she is being portrayed by Felicity Jones. Armie Hammer is her husband. The movie is called On The Basis of Sex. It will be released on the anniversary of her 25th year on the Supreme Court. Time flies.
Netflix has serious tentacles. They will pay half of the $30 million budget of the new Shaft movie. For that money, they will have the rights to stream the movie overseas only two weeks after its release in the US., and, of course, in the US after the 90 day theater release. Of further interest is that Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson will both be back in their updated roles. Jesse T. Usher is the young Shaft and the entire family will be out for justice.
Retreads never end! The new Charlie’s Angels is set to open, mark your calendars, June 7, 2019. Directed by Elizabeth Banks, it will star—-not yet decided. Apparently the studio would like to get Kristen Stewart and Lupito Nyong’o. Sounds like they have some work to do.
When you hear First Man, what do you think? In this case, it is a movie about Neil Armstrong from 1961-1969. Ryan Gosling will play Armstrong and Corey Stoll will play Buzz Aldrin. Claire Foy will play Janet Armstrong. This movie should be of great interest to those of us who had the opportunity to live in the same town with this couple, albeit some years after his “one small step for man . . . “
