For those of you who saw The Mountain Between Us this week (at $10 million, not many of you did), it is always interesting to imagine how different a movie might have been. For example, the lead male went from Michael Fassbender to Charlie Hunnam to Idris Elba. The lead female changed from Margot Robbie to Rosamund Pike to Kate Winslet. Significant differences, wouldn’t you say?
Harrison Ford is 75; he looked 75 in The Blade Runner: 2049. Like the Energizer Bunny, he keeps going. Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are teaming up for Indiana Jones 5. The release date is July 2020. Is 75 the new 55? Will Harrison still be able to be the same action hero at 78? Sean Connery, and others, realized that they could no longer be James Bond at a certain age. Perhaps we will meet Henry Jones III, and the franchise will continue . . .
Do you like true stories? Did you like Wonder Woman? The salacious Professor Marston and the Wonder Women is released this week. You can’t make this stuff up! Marston is a Harvard psychologist professor who invented the prototype for the lie detector, lives with his wife and lover, and created Wonder Woman in the 1940’s. Needless to say, it was controversial. Starring Luke Evans (Professor Marston), Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote (The Wonder Women), Oliver Platt and Connie Britton, it has a 88% Rotten Tomatoes rating with 24 reviews. With a strong sexual content warning, it sounds like Showtime’s Masters of Sex.
Stars Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15, 2017. So why was I asked to pre-order tickets on October 8, 2017? Is this some sort of pre-Halloween or pre-Thanksgiving rush? Seems like another scam to get our money earlier and earlier.
Who would you rather see? The Rock and Jason Statham, or Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson. The producers have opted for a Fast and Furious spinoff for July 2019. Vin and his crew have been put off until 2020 in Fast and Furious 9. There is some grumbling going on that Dwayne Johnson is trying to hijack the franchise. Let the games begin . . .
Did you see The Equalizer in 2014? Denzel Washington, as a bad a– assassin trying to go legit, killed a zillion bad guys to protect a prostitute and his co-workers. The movie grossed four times its budget at $192 million. You guessed it. Equallizer 2 is set to be released next fall. I’m guessing lots more bad guys will die. If we could just team up The Equalizer and John Wick, maybe . . . BTW, John Wick 3 is due out July 2019. Sequels, sequels, sequels.
