From the Loch Ness to the Pacific Northwest to Shanghai-La, The Missing Link traverses the world, and our imaginations. Yet, something is still missing. Mildly amusing, the previews contain the highlights of the comedy. Sasquatch looking for his family, his kind, is something relatable. The resolution is less so. I give this movie 3 Gavels and it receives an 89% Rotten Tomatoes rating with a 69% Audience Score.
Plot
Sir Lionel Frost desperately wants to be part of the society of great men. Susan is equally determined to meet his cousins in the Himalayas. They need each other. But first, they need a map in the hands of Frost’s former acquaintance, the fair Adelina. And, they must avoid the bounty hunter on their tail, the evil Willard Stenk.
Actors
Hugh Jackman voices Frost, his English accent straining to meet the demands of his part. Zack Galifianakis, gets all the best lines as the innocent Susan. Zoe Saldana is barely recognizable as the voice of Adelina. On the other hand, you can’t miss the voice of Timothy Olyphant from Justified as Stenk.
Final Thoughts
So colorful, one should enjoy this movie more. Maybe the fact that it follows Smallfoot, and precedes Abominable (out in September), is an indication that Hollywood needs new ideas. The character of Emma Thompson voicing the leader of the Yetis is just weird. In the end, Lionel finds his heart, and Susan finds his rightful place in the world, as expected. Just don’t expect much more.
